APRIL 2024 CONCERT

Berwick Arts Choir held its final concert of the 2023/24 season, "All in the April Evening", on Saturday 13th April.

This concert completed our first season under the baton of Marion Scammell, who the choir is pleased to confirm as our new Musical Director. As ever we are very grateful to Berwick Parish Church for offering us such a lovely venue for our concert. We were also delighted to have been joined by Kit Hobkirk, Director of Music at Berwick Parish Church and the Berwick Arts Orchestra under their leader Cath Cormie.

The concert opened in exuberant mood with Vivaldi's "Gloria" before moving on to Schubert's Mass in G, a beautiful work not heard as often as it ought to be. The second half of the concert offered a complete change in mood with Kit Hobkirk accompanying the choir in Elgar's "From the Bavarian Highlands". This collection of songs, inspired by a holiday that Elgar and his wife took in Bavaria, is by turns contemplative and rousing and required some truly phenomenal keyboard skills from Kit Hobkirk at the piano. This completed an evening of glorious music and hopefully sent everyone away feeling uplifted and thinking of summer.

We very much look forward to welcoming you to our 2024/25 season, either as a singer, with the Autumn term starting on Thursday 12th September or as a member of the audience at our concert on Saturday 14th December.
