Berwick Arts Choir is delighted to announce the appointment of our new Musical Director, Marion Scammell.
Marion directed the choir’s 'Festive Fantasia' in December 2023 which was a great success and we are looking forward to our next concert under her baton in April 2024.
Marion was based in Northern Scotland until her retirement and marriage and relocated to The Borders in 2018. She sang as a soloist and in many choirs and groups whilst bringing up her three sons. Once the youngest began school, Marion attended Aberdeen Music College as a mature student and in 1996, attained three teaching diplomas L.T.C.L., L.G.S.M. and I.C.M.A.
She taught voice at Aberdeen College and Northern College which later amalgamated with the University of Aberdeen. In 2000, Marion began teaching at Gordonstoun Schools as Principal Teacher of Voice, staying there for eighteen years. During this time she was also Musical Director for Banchory Youth Choir and The Deveron Singers, a sixty strong community mixed voices choir.
After the success of our Christmas concert the choir was delighted when Marion accepted the position of Musical Director on a permanent basis. We now look forward to sharing our love of music with the community in Berwick and beyond under Marion's enthusiastic leadership
